Day 7

2nd Day of City Tour

A continuation from yesterday's city tour, we were brought to Jiang Tan Han Kou and Bu Xing Jie. Today's tour is rather a free and easy kind of moving around. We were brought to the places and were given a specific time to gather at a spot.

Jiang Tan Han Kou

Jiang Tan Han Kou is located near Chang Jiang Di Yi Da Qiao (1st Bridge). It is a park with very beautiful scenery of the sea and greenery. Today is a very sunny day but the wind blowing is very cooling. That's the weather of Wuhan, even though it is very sunny, the weather is still very cooling at times. Facing the sea, we can see fishermen at work and large cargo ships. In the park, there are speakers producing music of the orchestra and shelters and fitness corner that is filled with many people.

Bu Xing Jie

Next we were brought to Bu Xing Jie for our lunch and shopping spree. Bu Xing Jie of Wuhan is like the "Orchard Road" of Singapore. It is a street of shopping stalls selling merchandise that is not very cheap compared to others in Wuhan as it is located at the central of Wuhan. A few of us had our lunch at a fast food restaurant called "Dico's". We tried it as we can't find it in Singapore. After lunch, we proceed to shop. While eating, i realized that actually Wuhan is more eco-friendly than Singapore. Almost most of the supermarkets and even small stores like this help to save the environment by not issuing plastic bags and charging for it if needed. We realized that the branded stuffs here is about the same price compared to Singapore but some cost even more. However, i managed to buy myself 2 shirts which cost 50 RMB altogether:)

Words are hard to portray everything.. So let the photos say everything...........

Day 6

The Start of City Tour

Good morning to all! A day of city tour visits await us. Are u READY??? We board the bus at around 830 and for today's tour, we have a tour guide and her name is Li Yu:) She is here to explain everything about Wuhan to us. I really like to thank her hard work and effort she put in as towards the end, you will also realize that. We were really rowdy and not paying attention to the interesting facts that she provide us. I can see her desperateness in wanting to get hold of our attention, but we just keep taking photographs. Sorry Li Yu. Our first stop for today is the Hubei Provincial Museum, then to Shou Yi Garden Snack Street for lunch and the last stop to Wuhan Yellow Crane Tower.

Our tour guide:)

Hubei Provincial Museum

Hubei provincial museum is located in the Wuchang District of Wuhan, Hubei Province. The museum collects, protects and exhibits the cultural relics discovered in the province. Since 1953, the museum has collected over 200000 cultural relics including pottery, porcelains, jade, bronze vessels, ancient weapons and ancient musical instruments. Most of the exhibits are on the history and cultural relics of the Chu State. The museum is very big and we managed to take a lot of photos on the exhibits however, i can't manage to upload all the photos up. China is a country that is full of interesting facts on the thousand years old of history. If you really listen to the tour guide explaining on every little details, you will really want to follow on and know more as they are really interesting. I hope that the photos that i took will give all of you a better idea of the meaningful museum.

Shou Yi Garden Snack Street

Today's lunch is a very special one compared to all other days. The tour guide bring us to a street with a whole stretch of food stalls selling different local delicacies. As they do not collect cash, we have to purchase a card to be topped up with credits. The minimum amount to be topped-up is 20 RMB. It is glad to see that a city like Wuhan is using such technology as well. They have food ranging from, dumpling, soya bean drink, soups, porridge, teppanyaki, dian xin, "Smelly Tofu" and many many more. Today is my first time smelling the horrendous smell of "Smelly Tofu". OMG the smell is unbearable. As i am very picky when it comes to food, i didn't dare to try a lot of food there. But i did not regret trying a kind of glutinous rice with prata crust and some new flavoured dumpling that cannot be found in Singapore. Also, I brought a bowl of soup that tasted so much like the soups cooked by our mother that we keep praising it. It was really that awesome.

Wuhan Yellow Crane Tower

The Wuhan Yellow Crane Tower consists of a 5-storey tower, a beautiful garden park and a street of stalls. We were brought to the tower and when we went up to the 2nd and 3rd storey, we can have the bird's eye view of Wuhan and the longest river in Asia, the Yangtze River. Along the way and in the tower, the tour gude explain to us the history of the tower and what each structure symbolises. Inside the tower, there are huge paintings, calligraphy and many other works of art. The scenery up on the tower and at any part of the park is awesome. There is also a huge gong that we can ring, but at a small price, for good luck. We took lots of photos here and i also manage to buy some souveniors for my parents, auntie and classmates.

Welcome to Yellow Crane Tower!

Day 5

Steel Mill Manufacturing Plant Visit

After breakfast, we gather at the main gate to board the chartered bus to go to the plant visit. It is a visit to view the steel mill manufacturing process. We were brought to view the melting process of iron ore. The temperature used is about 1000 plus degree Celsius; we can feel the strong heat even though we were viewing behind a panel. Next we were brought to view the flattening of the steel to thin strips of about 1.5mm from a thick steel bar of 20mm. It is a very huge manufacturing plant and we can see that all the workers there work very hard on all the tough jobs to earn a living. We were not allowed to take any photos in the plant processes; however, i managed to take a few shots. The visit end here.

Mr Puah briefing us on the way to the visit:)

All Beef Lunch

We had our lunch at a Muslim store to accommodate our Muslim friends. They only sell beef La Mian and some fried rice there. Their La Mian is made on the spot and the drinks they have are those retro kind; glass bottles. I had their "Hong Sao Beef La Mian". The taste very special and their noodle is very nice, just a little soggy.

"Hong Sao Beef La Mian" and retro drinks!

Dinner from the backstreet

We had our dinner together at the street stalls behind our hostel. The food there is cheap and yummy and in a big serving. All f us ordered fried rice which cost only 4 RMB. Also, we ordered bubble tea which costs only 2 RMB. While waiting for my drink, i realize that they use manual sealing for the cup of drink wheras in Singapore, the sealing of the cup is done jus by pressing one button. This shows the difference in some form of technology compared to in China and Singapore.

Bubble tea:) Uncle insist that i can't add pearl:(

Day 4

IS Lesson

Today we had our first IS class. The teacher uses English to conduct the lesson and communicate with us. From here, i can really sense all their sincerity in welcoming us to their school and also their country. They keep asking us for feedbacks and what we still lack of so that they can provide us the best in everything. THANK YOU WUST! Our teacher name is Xiao Ling. She introduces us to the culture, history, food and place of interest in Hubei, Wuhan. She was trying her best to help us understand though we were a bit rowdy sometimes. Sometimes i really admire the Chinese here. They really have to put in a lot of effort to learn a language that is so foreign to them and they can do it so well. They are really more hardworking than most of the students in Singapore. Even late in the night and it was their summer holidays, we can still see students studying in the library, without air-con.

IS class in the LT!

Dinner

As it was raining really heavily, we had our dinner at a nearby restaurant. It was very crowded in the restaurant and we had to wait for a 13pax table. While waiting, we almost died. The restaurant is filled with cigarette smell. In Wuhan, they allow their guests to smoke in the restaurant on a different level but not enclose. It was really unbearable. We had a ten course dinner and their food was fantastic. We managed to order the right food though not understanding the menu well. When we ordered rice, it comes in a big bowl and we have to scoop ourselves. The ten course dinner only cost 300 plus RMB which is about 6 plus dollars each in Singapore. The dinner was really awesome today.

A sumptous dinner with duck, chicken, fish, mushroom, tofu and many more for just 300 plus RMB!!!

Just us!
